Adding and Removing Casual Staff from a Site using SMU

Overview

The ability to Add or Remove Casuals from a site has been added to SMU.

Principals can give themselves access to do this, or delegate it to another staff member, as per the normal process in AMU.

Granting Access to use SMU via AMU:

1. From the DET Portal, select AMU from the <My Applications> tab

2. Principals can either give themselves access to AMU or delegate this access to another user

3. If located at the default site, click the radio button beside SMU and click <Next>

4. If located at more than 1 site, select the appropriate site from the drop-down list before selecting SMU, then click <Next>

5. From the list of staff options within SMU, choose <Staff Admin> and click on the box in this column next to the appropriate staff member.

a. If successful it should turn green. Simply exit the screen to save

b. If unsuccessful, wait a few seconds and try again.

c. If still unsuccessful, please log a helpdesk call for assistance and quote the error message.

6. Access is now granted so simply exit the screen using the back arrow for the browser

Adding Casual Staff to a site using SMU

1. Log into the DET Portal, select SMU from the <My Applications> tab

2. In the left hand column, click <Staff Management> and <Casual ¿ Add Staff>

3. In the search boxes, enter Last Name and First Name and click <Search>

4. Click on the staff member to be added and the staff member¿s details will be displayed.

5. Select the appropriate roles from the list and the appropriate location, if no default site is listed

6. Click <Add Casual Staff> and then <OK> in the confirmation box

7. A success message will be displayed in green above the search boxes. Email distribution lists will also be updated for that site

Removing Casual Staff from a site using SMU

1. Log into the DET Portal, select SMU from the <My Applications> tab

2. In the left hand column, click <Staff Management> and <Casual ¿ Search/Remove>

3. In the search boxes, enter Last Name and First Name and click <Search>

4. Select appropriate staff member by clicking on their name in the list displayed

5. Click on <Remove Casual Staff> and <OK> in the confirmation box

6. A success message will be displayed in green above the search boxes. Email distribution lists will also be updated for that site

Please note SMU experiences a time-out after 20 minutes of inactivity.

This is a DET Security setting on the DET Network, not an error.

Login back in using the login box and work can continue.

    • Please ensure that you log out of the application and not just close the browser.

    • This ensures that no breech of security occurs if someone else reopens the browser, particularly in a public place.

      REMEMBER – Add Casual staff when they join your school and Remove them when they leave.
